Although things got a little out of order with World of Girls Journey we decide to connect our Take Action project (Speak Out) for this journey to a great organization that helps boys and girls around the world. Since World of Girls is about girls around the world this seemed like a great fit. Each girl did a shoe box, added gifts like toys, toothbrush, books, socks, and more. We also added a personal note coloringpages.pdf Each girl colored and completed this sheet and included with her shoe box. I connected this part to Making Friends badge (perfect fit). Since Operation Christmas Child operates on a deadline we moved ahead and completed the Take Action step even though we are also still working on Change a Story/Tell A Story. I ended up moving around what I was going to do to allow the girls to have an entire meeting to practice the big show. This ended up being a good idea. They needed to understand moving around back stage, following the script, bring out props, following directions of backstage director (my older daughter). At our next meeting the girls will perform the puppet show. That meeting is also court of awards, perfect combination since all the parents already plan to attend awards night. This will also be the final step to wrap up the Tell A story/Change a story portion. I think I included this info below but if not I found a great script about a King and his sons. We decide to change the story to be a Queen, her daughter and her kingdom. This was a lot of fun. The girls selected all the character names, and assigned roles to one another. We made everything for this production from the puppets, the stage and even props (see jail). I have no doubt the girls will do a great job performing the show and I know the parents will really enjoy this.
At today's meeting we worked on the stage (old box from AC unit) this will be used for our upcoming puppet show. I cut, painted and cut window out ahead of time. Having all of that done allowed the girls to decorate and paint the stage. They loved adding their personal touch. They have really enjoyed this process and are very excited to start practicing their big puppet show. I know I have said this before but I find the journey's can be dry and boring so I try really hard to make it more fun.
